On the Job

No one likes getting a parking ticket, and it's not really fun giving
them either. I've been yelled at for writing tickets. During my usual
40-hour work week, I perform other activities. including non-emergency
medical
transports, dispatching police, patrolling Morris Library and
Christiana Towers, building security and late-night escorting of students.
After one year, I have managed to gather some pretty amusing stories. For
example, I got a call last year and the person prefaced his problem with
'You are going to laugh at me.' Evidently, the young man had been
repeatedly attacked by a bird, dive-bombed four or five times. He wasn't
sure what he wanted done, and neither was I, but I sent a fellow student
aide to check out the scene.
I took the last three years off from my studies at the University in
order to rebuild my monetary funds. I will resume classes in the spring and
graduate with a degree in history in May 1994. Public Safety has not only
provided me with financial backing, but also with a newly found interest in
law enforcement. After graduation, I plan to look for work in that area."
