Marvin Gilman honored as '94 Housing Person of Year

     Marvin S. Gilman, professor emeritus in the College of Urban
Affairs and Public Policy and president of the Gilman Development Co.,
was honored as the 1994 Housing Person of the Year by the National
Housing Conference at its annual dinner June 9 in Washington, D.C.
     Gilman, a lifelong champion of affordable housing, received the
Crystal Eagle Award for his outstanding accomplishments in this field.
     The National Housing Conference, a coalition of national housing
leaders from the private and public sectors, is the nation's oldest,
non-profit, bipartisan organization working toward providing decent
housing and a suitable living environment for every American.
     To honor Gilman's achievements, the University has established
the Marvin S. Gilman/National Housing Endowment Scholarship in the
College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
     The Gilman/NHE Scholarship Fund will be used to provide tuition
for one year to the Gilman Scholar, a student in the college who best
exemplifies Gilman's commitment to public service and community
improvement and his dedication to strengthening housing and urban
policy.
