Preview Days attract hundreds

Delaware Preview Days, a series of special presentations for high
school students interested in the University of Delaware and sponsored
by the Office of Admissions, began last week with programs in the Bob
Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.
More than 2,100 visitors attended the first two preview days,
including in excess of 700 prospective students. Visitors came from
many nearby states and from as far away as Maine, Florida, Ohio and
California.
This year's sessions continue a tradition that began six summers
ago. Visitors are provided a diverse preview of the academic offerings
in the University's eight undergraduate colleges and also are given an
overview of the wide range of social and athletic offerings available
on campus.
According to Bruce Walker, associate provost of admissions and
student financial aid, "University faculty, administrators and staff
have been wonderful. Coming out on Saturday required a special
commitment, and I appreciate their support. We couldn't do these
programs without them."
During previous years, preview day events were held on the Mall,
near Memorial Hall. This year, due to central campus construction
projects, the events are being held in the Carpenter Center.
The remaining programs, scheduled July 28-29 and Aug. 5-6, will
begin at 1 p.m. and will include entertainment featuring the
cheerleaders and YoUDee, admissions and honors presentations, campus
tours and the opportunity for prospective students to interact with
faculty, staff, students and alumni.
