Andras Z. Szeri named new mechanical engineering chair
Andras Z. Szeri has been named chairperson of the Department of
Mechanical Engineering, effective Aug. 1.
Szeri comes to Delaware from the University of Pittsburgh, where
he has served on the faculty as the William Kepler Whiteford Professor
of Engineering. Previous appointments at Pittsburgh include serving as
chairperson of mechanical engineering and professor of mathematics.
For over a decade, he also was a consultant for the Westinghouse
Research and Development Center in Pittsburgh.
Educated in England, Szeri holds a bachelor of science and a
doctorate in engineering from the University of Leeds. His research
field is fluid mechanics and heat transfer with special emphasis on
tribology.
He began his career with the English Electric Co., later becoming
British Council Professor of Aerodynamics at the Universidad F. Santa
Maria in Chile.
A fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME),
Szeri has served on the executive board of the ASME Tribology
Division, as technical editor of the Journal of Tribology and
currently is a member of the Research Committee on Tribology.
He has published extensively in his field, including a book
entitled Tribology: Friction, Lubrication and Wear, published by
Hemisphere Publishing Co.
