Rock 'n' roll revival
You can sigh over Fabian, scream at Bobby Rydell and shimmy with
The Shirelles when the University by the Sea Summer Arts Festival
presents "Rock 'n' Roll 'n' Remember" at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 16.
Bobby Rydell's million-selling singles "Wild One" and "Volare,"
Fabian's gold records "Turn Me Loose" and "Tiger," and The Shirelles'
mega-hits like "Tonight's The Night," "This is Dedicated to the One I
Love," "Baby It's You" and the immortal "Soldier Boy" will all be
featured in a concert designed to knock your socks off.
Rydell's career spans several decades and encompasses nearly
every area of the entertainment world.
His recording career earned him 34 Top-40 records putting him
among the elite group of artists who have sold a combined total of
over 25 million records.
Rydell lives in suburban Philadelphia, not far from where he
spent his childhood.
With two fellow teen idols, Frankie Avalon and Fabian, Rydell
toured for three years in the hit show, The Golden Boys of Bandstand,
seen by more than 400,000 people.
Fabian Forte was discovered at the age of 14 sitting on his front
steps in Philadelphia. Soon, thousands would throng to his concerts.
Capitalizing on his good looks and ability to excite an audience,
Fabian reached dizzying heights of success. At 15, he won the Silver
Award as "The Most Promising Male Vocalist of 1958," and by the time
he was l8, he had recorded dozens of hit singles, eight albums and won
two gold records and a gold album for "The Fabulous Fabian."
Today, he hosts and performs in his own concert series, Fabian's
Goodtime Rock 'n' Roll Show, which features great acts from the '50s
and '60s, and is a film and television producer for Rattlesnake
Productions.
The Shirelles began singing together while still attending high
school in Passaic, N.J., when they were signed to a contract with
TIARA Records, which later became the legendary SCEPTER Records.
The women sang their way into America's heart with memorable hits
such as "Tonight's The Night," "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" and
"Soldier Boy."
Over the years, the group has appeared at major concerts and
nightclubs spanning the globe, including the legendary Paladium in
London, the Olympia in Paris, as well as Madison Square Garden and
Radio City Music Hall in New York.
Tickets are free for children under the age of 7; $5 in advance

mischievous genie. With the help of that genie, Aladdin does indeed
find his fortune and, of course, a princess to share his travels and
dreams.

musical theatre for families and young audiences. Its award-winning,
critically acclaimed commitment to quality presentations is legendary.

Hot Latin music
Salsa under the stars to the Latin American beat of Johnny Ray
and his Salsa Con Clase Orchestra Friday, July 15. The concert begins
at 7:30 p.m.
One of New York's hottest Latin American recording and concert
artists, Ray has a voice that has been called a cross between Julio
Iglesias and Wayne Newton. His music features the sultry sounds of
Mexico and Colombia, blended with the spicy dance music of Puerto Rico
and the Caribbean.
Ray's latest recording, "Suavecito," celebrates the Latin music
styles of New York, Puerto Rico and Colombia in what he calls "los
tres sabores"- the three flavors. The collection of songs contains
positive messages and reflects the lifestyles of his audience in what
has been called "the most danceable album of the year."
Ray's ability to adapt ballads and Mexican songs to the spicy
music of the Caribbean make his music most enjoyable and highly
dancable.
Tickets are free for children under the age of 7; $3 in advance
and $5 at the door for children ages 7-17; $5 in advance and $7 at the
door for adults.
