UpDate - Vol. 13, No. 33, Page 2 May 26, 1994 Provost honored by trustees At the semiannual Board of Trustees meeting in Lewes, Board Chariman Andrew B. Kirkpatrick Jr. (left) presents Richard B. Murray with a framed copy of a trustee resolution honoring him for his service as interim provost from 1988-91 and 1993-94. With the appointment of Melvyn Schiavelli as the new provost, Murray will return this fall to his position as professor of physics. The resolution reads, in part, "During his tenure as interim provost, Dr. Murray has used a special judgment, attention to detail and academic vision to support the educational programs of the University. He has given generously of his time and maintained an unwavering commitment to academic excellence that has ensured the smooth operation and ongoing development of high-quality education. He has won the trust and respect of the University faculty, his staff and others who work with him. Through all of this, he has acted with dignity, a wry sense of humor and a firm commitment to excellence." In recognition of his service, the trustees removed the word "interim" from his title in the University records to indicate that he served as University provost.
