Ralph Kleinman named a fellow of electrical engineers' institute

Ralph Kleinman, professor of mathematical sciences and director of
the Center for the Mathematics of Waves, has been named a fellow of
the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The honor recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and
important individual contributions in the field.
Kleinman is a researcher in the general area of wave propagation
and the IEEE recognized his contributions in the area of
electromagnetic waves, where his research interests include low-
frequency scattering, antenna designs and target identification
problems.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from New York University
in 1950, Kleinman earned his doctorate at the Technische Hogeschool in
Delft, the Netherlands. He joined the University's Department of
Mathematical Sciences in 1968, after working for several years at the
University of Michigan's Radiation Laboratory as a research
mathematician.
He has been a visiting professor at Delft Technical University, the
University of Copenhagen and the University of Paris.
His professional duties include serving as chairperson of the U.S.
Commission B of the International Scientific Radio Union.
