French award for grad student

   Jacalyn B. Gibson, a graduate student in the Department of Foreign
Languages and Literature, has received a grant from the Alliance
Francaise and the French government to study at the Alliance Francaise
de Paris during the month of July. The award includes tuition, a
stipend and some transportation funding.
   A teacher at Lake Forest High School, Gibson is enrolled in the
department's Summer Institute for Foreign Language Teachers.
   The special award is designed for a teacher who plans to teach
French at the elementary school level. The University is currently
working with the state of Delaware to develop a certification program
for foreign language teachers in elementary schools.
