3 students cited at Steele symposium

Three UD students won awards at the annual Marion H. Steele Symposium,
sponsored by the College of Human Resources and Delaware State University,
in cooperation with the Delaware Home Economics Association and the Human
Resources Alumni Association.
Sharon B. Cowan won first place in the graduate student category for
her paper, "Nutrition Knowledge, Attitude and Dietary Intakes of Female
Athletes: Impact of Nutrition Education." In the undergraduate category,
Patricia M. Bannan won first place for "Asian Students' Adaptation to U.S.
Foods," and Rachel B. Levi won second place for "The Psychological
Implications of Chronic Childhood Illness."
The symposium honors the late Marion H. Steele, Delaware '28, who
served as managing editor of the Journal of Home Economics for several
years.
In addition, Bannan has received an internship to the National
Institutes of Health, one of only four in the United States. She also was
awarded the Mary Clayton Bentley Award given to a senior majoring in
nutrition and dietetics, who excels in scholarship, leadership and service
to the University or community.
