     Dean Belt, Cooperative Extension, received an award from the state
     Division of Fish and Wildlife recognizing his long-time service as an
     instructor with Delaware's hunter safety education program.

     Vistasp Karbhari, composite materials and civil engineering, guest
     editor for special issue on recycling of polymers and composite
     materials, Journal of Thermoplastic Composite Materials, vol. 7, no.
     1.

     William Browning, theatre, conducted a workshop on use of AUTO-CAD for
     the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee Professional Theatre Training
     Program.

     Judy Hendricks, nursing, named a member of interim board of directors,
     National Nurse Practitioners Coalition.

     Larry Purnell, nursing, was one of 15 nurses chosen by American
     Organization of Nurse Executives to attend a breakfast with President
     Bill Clinton, May 10, Washington, D.C. At the breakfast to honor
     nurses in Congress and the executive branch, the organization
     announced a grant in memory of Virginia Kelley, CRNA, mother of
     President Clinton.

RETIREES

     John Murray, currently of Landenberg, Pa., former parallel program
     dean, and Robert M. Stark, mathematical sciences, have been elected to
     two-year terms as president and vice president, respectively, of the
     White Clay Wathershed Association. The organization is dedicated to
     the preservation and enhancement of the natural resources of the White
     Clay Creek and valley in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

     Daniel P. Biebuyck, currently of Jupiter, Fla., H. Rodney Sharp
     Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Humanities, was appointed the
     Arthur Golding Eminent Scholar in African Art at the University of
     South Florida, Tampa, for the academic years 1993-1999. He also was
     appointed as Directeur de Travaux at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes
     Etudes, Paris, where he will present a series of lecutres in French on
     African Initiation Systems. He continues to publish articles in
     various journals and catalogs abroad.

     James C. McLaren, professor emeritus of foreign languages and
     literatures, continues teaching occasional seminars in French
     literature and "Intensive Composition" at the University. He has been
     writing a word-play humor column for the Newark Post, entitled
     "Lunacies: Poems, Puns and Proverbs."

     W. Barkley Fritz, currently of Media, Pa., former professor of
     computer and information sciences, recently published an article in
     the IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, volume 16. He also enjoys
     playing tennis and traveling around the world.

     Ginny Burt, currently of Oxford, Pa., former assistant University
     coordinator for graduate studies in the Office of Graduate Studies,
     travelled to Egypt, El Salvador and Malawi serving as a representative
     of the United States business community. These trips were sponsored by
     the International Executive Service Corps, a Stamford, Conn., based
     company that sends retired experts in their respective fields to
     third-world countries to advise client companies on how to improve
     business practices, production and overcome manufacturing problems.

     Arlene K. Miller, former college recruiter for the College of
     Agricultural Sciences, volunteers at Union Hospital of Cecil County,
     Md., in the "good as new shop," is treasurer on the hospital's Junior
     Board and participates in many of the fundraising events. She also
     volunteers for the Historical Society of Cecil County, and is helping
     set up a computerized inventory of all the organization's items.
