Caryn Bohn wins regional student-alumni award

Caryn M. Bohn, president of the University of Delaware's Student
Alumni Association (SAA), was recently named Outstanding Student Member of
the District II Student Alumni Association/Student Foundation Network.
Bohn, a senior honors student in civil engineering from Warrington,
Pa., has devoted countless hours each week to running the Student Alumni
Association. The award recognizes her time, energy, skill and devotion to
the organization and her ability to achieve substantial results.
Bohn has been a member of SAA since 1991 and has chaired several
committees, served a term as vice president and assumed the presidency for
the year beginning last May. Innovative programs that she has helped to
create include "Freshmen Send-Off Picnics," held near new students'
hometowns to introduce entering freshmen to each other and to prepare them
for their new environment. She also helped plan the organization's first
"Senior Send-Off Picnic," which was held this spring to congratulate
graduating seniors and to encourage their future ties to the University.
Organizational changes implemented by Bohn include the election of a
new executive officer position to oversee recruitment, social activities
and other events pertaining to membership and the rotation of SAA members
who represent the organization at meetings of the University Alumni
Association-a move designed to strengthen SAA ties to the alumni
association and further SAA's goal of fostering student-alumni interaction.
In nominating Bohn for the award, Bill Clark, former adviser to the
SAA, wrote that she "earned the respect of peers and administrators for her
dedication, leadership skills, maturity and articulating a clear vision of
the organization's course during her one-year term as president."
Bohn is the second UD student to win this award since it was created
four years ago. Martin Mitchell received it in 1991.
