Graduation ushers
     Members of the University community are invited to volunteer as ushers
from 7-11 a.m., Saturday, May 28, at the 1994 Commencement ceremonies.
Volunteers will show graduates, parents and guests to their seats. Ushers
are not required to wear academic regalia.

Ballroom dancing
     The Ballroom Dance Club will hold a spring semiformal dinner dance at
8 p.m., Thursday, May 19, in Carpenter Sports Building. Cost, which
includes a buffet dinner and all beverages, is $12 for club members, $15
for students and $20 for others.

B&G Italian Feast
     The Blue and Gold Club will introduce its newest feature, an Italian
Feast, from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 18. The feast will be held on the
third Thursday of every month.
     The menu will include antipasto, Caesar salad, three pastas with
signature sauces, chicken picatta, hand-filled cannolis and more. Cost is
$12.95.

Newark forum
     The Friends of Newark will present a forum exploring the economic
forces at work on Main Street and what can be done to revitalize Newark's
downtown, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, in the Heritage Hall of the
Newark United Methodist Church.
     Jeffrey Miller, economics, will speak about the economics of Main
Street. Carl Luft, city manager of Newark, will talk about the report of
the April 27 Main Street assessment. A panel, composed of Main Street
business persons, University representatives and area residents, also will
present its views.

Retirement reception
     Members of the University community are invited to attend a retirement
reception being held in honor of Willard Baxter, professor of mathematical
sciences. The Department of Mathematical Sciences will host the event from
5-6:30 p.m., with an optional dinner at 6:45 p.m., in Clayton Hall.
     Cost is $10 for the reception; $15 for dinner and $25 for both. To
attend, send a check by May 16, made payable to the University of Delaware,
to: Diane Iffland, mathematical sciences, 501 Ewing Hall.

Aerospace camps
     The 1994 Delaware Aerospace Academy is enrolling students for its
summer camps. Level I day camp is for students in grades 6-8, and will be
held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., June 27-July 1 at Glasgow High School. Level II,
an overnight camp for students in grades 7-9, will be held July 10-15 on
the University's North Campus.
     Alumna Stephanie Wright, Delaware's teacher in space finalist, heads
the academy. Students work and learn in small groups, emphasizing the
teamwork necessary in the real world.
     Cost is $195 for Level I and $325 for Level II. Call Robert Bloom at

Baseball quarterfinals
     The University of Delaware will host this weekend's North Atlantic
Conference quarterfinal baseball action Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15, at
Delaware Diamond.
     Delaware (36-10 overall, 20-4 NAC) is the top seed and will play a
doubleheader against No. 8 Boston University (4-24, 5-34 NAC) at noon
Saturday. Game three, if necessary, will begin at noon, Sunday.
     The winners of the quarterfinals will advance to the NAC championships
May 20-22 at a site to be determined.
     The NAC champion will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA
tournament.

Art auction benefit
     The Newark Symphony Orchestra will sponsor an art auction at 8 p.m.,
Saturday, May 14, at the Aetna Fire Hall. Proceeds will benefit the
non-profit community orchestra.
     The auction will be conducted by the Heisman Fine Arts Gallery. A
one-hour preview party will begin at 7 p.m., complete with complimentary
wine and cheese and chamber music.

Wellness Fair
     The Newark Senior Center will host its annual Wellness Fair from 9
a.m.-2 p.m., Monday, May 23. The fair will include a variety of exhibitors
and health screenings for hearing, glaucoma and cataracts, diabetes,
cholesterol, oral cancer, mammography and blood pressure.
     All the medical tests are free, except for the cholesterol screening,
which will cost $12, and requires a 12-hour fast for accurate results.
Mammography screening requires an appointment, which may be made by calling
737-2336.
     A heart healthy lunch will be provided to all participants. For more

UDIP, CLIP and RIP
     The College of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation's third
annual "UDIP, CLIP and RIP," swim, bike and run sprint triathlon will be
held at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, beginning at the Carpenter Sports
Building.
     The events include swimming 500 yards in the indoor pool, biking 14
miles and running three miles. Individuals may participate in all three
events alone, or compete as part of a three-person team. Orientation will
be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 13, in Carpenter Sports Building.

Library hours
     Morris Library hours from May 13-27, including extended hours for
exams, are 8 a.m.-midnight, Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday; 9
a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m.-midnight, Sunday. The library will be
open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday, May 27.
     Special Collections and the Exhibition Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5
p.m., Monday-Friday, and until 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Elliott open house
     The residents of Elliott Hall-the dean and staff of the College of
Arts and Science and its advisement center-are holding an open house from
2-5 p.m., Friday, May 13.
     The renovated building is located on Main Street directly across from
the north end of the Mall.
