Library's new network to provide wider data access
Anew Library Electronic Resources Network (LERN) now provides
campuswide access to data bases and information resources.
The following data bases are available:
* Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA);
* Art Index;
* Biological and Agricultural Index;
* Dissertation Abstracts;
* Government Documents Catalog (Autographics);
* Life Sciences Collection;
* MLA International Bibliography;
* National Trade Data Bank (NTDB);
* NESE DB (National Economic, Social and Environmental Data Bank);
* Nursing and Allied Health (CINAHL); Philadelphia Inquirer (full
text);
* Phonedisc (provides access to addresses and phone numbers
nationwide);
* PsycLIT;
* Sociofile; and
* Statistical Abstract of the United States.
When connected to these data bases, users will be able to print and
download information.
These LERN data bases join DELCAT, DELPLUS data bases (ABI/INFORM,
Compendex Plus, ERIC, Expanded Academic Index), OCLC FirstSearch, CARL
UnCover and other online resources available from the library.
Subject to licensing restrictions and technical limitations, more LERN
data bases will be added as resources permit.
The data bases on the LERN system are CD-ROM data bases networked
through a UNIX platform.
Requirements for connection to LERN include:
1. IBM PC or compatible, 286 or higher processor
2. DOS operating system
3. Ethernet card
4. FTP's PC/TCP software
5. Active Ethernet connection to the campus backbone
Configure PC/TCP software to connect to LERN by contacting CNS User
Services at 831-6000 to make an appointment.
The necessary files and installation instructions are also available
through anonymous ftp from morris.lib.udel.edu in the /pub/LERN directory.
At this time, access to LERN is not available via modem, UDiscover or
from a Macintosh computer.
For questions regarding network connections and workstation
configuration to access LERN, University users may call the CNS User
Services Help Line at 831-6000.
For questions and additional information on how to search data bases
on the Library Electronic Resources Network, call the library's information
desk at 831-2965.
