Elliott open house
The residents of Elliott Hall-the dean and staff of the College of
Arts and Science and its advisement center-are holding an open house from
2-5 p.m., Friday, May 13. The renovated building is located on Main Street
directly across from the north end of the Mall.
Those planning to attend are asked to call 831-2351 by May 8.
Blue and Gold trips
The Blue and Gold Club will host trips to see the Orioles play at
Camden Yards in Baltimore on Friday, June 17, Friday, July 8, and Thursday,
Aug. 11. Cost is $28, $30 and $34, respectively. Snacks, transportation,
tickets and dinner are included in the cost of each trip.

Gated-lot parking
The gate-controlled parking lots located by Newark Hall, Hullihen
Hall, Morris Library and on Amstel Avenue are available for use from 6
p.m.-2 a.m., Mondays-Fridays, and from 6 p.m., Fridays, to 2 a.m., Mondays,
to all individuals who possess valid University parking permits.
Faculty, staff and, in some cases, students may purchase
gate-controlled parking permits by calling Jenni Sparks at 831-4143.
NAC softball tourney
The University of Delaware will host this weekend's North Atlantic
Conference (NAC) softball championships on Delaware Field from Friday
through Sunday.
Delaware (22-19, 4-4 NAC) is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6
Vermont (16-17, 1-9 NAC) on Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m.
The championship game of the double elimination tournament will be
held at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, with the winner advancing to take on the
Northeast Conference champion for the right to go to the NCAA
championships.
All NAC tournament games between the six participating teams will be
played on Delaware Field, with ticket prices per day at $5 for adults and
$2 for children and students with ID.
A tournament ticket is available at $10 for adults and $4 for students
with ID and children.

Diversity seminars
The Office of Affirmative Action and Multicultural Programs and the
Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity have scheduled a series
of diversity workshops in the Perkins Student Center.
The May presentations will occur on Saturday, May 7, in the Ewing
Room; and Friday, May 13, in the Rodney Room.
The June programs will be held Monday, June 6, and Friday, June 10,
both in the Ewing Room.

Morris Library hours
Morris Library hours from May 13-27, including extended hours for
exams, are 8 a.m.-midnight, Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday; 9
a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m.-midnight, Sunday. The library will be
open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday, May 27.
Special Collections and the Exhibition Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5
p.m., Monday-Friday, and until 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Staff luncheon
The University Staff Association will hold its last luncheon of the
1993-94 academic year at noon, Thursday, May 19, in the Rodney Room of the
Perkins Student Center. Margaret Andersen, vice provost for academic
affairs, will give a talk entitled, "Women's Work is Never Done: The Perils
and Promise of a Life of Labor."
Cost is $6.50 for the menu, $1.25 to brown bag. Reservations, which
are required by Monday, May 16, may be made by sending choice of lunch and
a check, made payable to the University of Delaware, to Cyndi Timko at 127
Townsend Hall.

Flexible benefits
Members of the University community will find a number of health
insurance program enhancements, especially with Principal Health Care,
listed in the 1994-95 Flexible Benefit Enrollment materials distributed
within the last week. In addition, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Delaware will
implement a new contract and payment arrangement with participating
physicians, effective July 1. While it is anticipated that the majority of
physicians will agree to the new contract, individuals may wish to check
with their physician about his/her continued participation in the the
Basic, Basic Plus, Comprehensive, HMO and Total Health Plus programs.
During the flex enrollment period, representatives from Blue
Cross/Blue Shield and Principal Health Care will provide detailed
information about the various health care programs at a workshop series
sponsored by the Benefits Office. Workshops, lasting approximately one
hour, will be held in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center at 2:30
p.m., Tuesday, May 10, and noon, Thursday, May 12.

RISE open house
Students and staff of the Resources to Insure Successful Engineers
(RISE) Program invite members of the University community to attend an open
house to celebrate the new RISE facility, in 141 Du Pont Hall.
The event will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, May 10. Light
refreshments will be served.
UD pool membership
The University's outdoor swimming pool is offering memberships for the
1994 season. Cost is $155 for a community family, $80 for a community
individual, $135 for a University family and $70 for a University
individual.

Retirement party
Members of the University community are invited to attend a retirement
reception being held in honor of Tom Merrill, professor of English. The
English department will host this event at 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, at
the Blue and Gold Club.
Memorial Day
The Newark Memorial Day Committee will hold its 58th annual Memorial
Day ceremonies beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 15, on the University Mall.
The parade down Main Street will begin at 2 p.m. There is no rain date.

Dance festival
The Newark Dance Festival 1994, an event to benefit the Newark Arts
Alliance, will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 13, in Newark Hall.
Local dance companies and performers will give performances that will
include classical ballet, contemporary and primal dance and Balkan and
German folk dancing.
Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for senior citizens and children.

Laser safety notice
The Department of Occupational Health and Safety received notification
from the Laser Institute of America that significant changes have been made
to its publication, Standard for the Safe Use of Lasers.
The standard is recognized as the primary source of laser safety
guidelines.
Information describing the 34 amendments to the standard can be
obtained from The Department of Occupational Health and Safety by calling

State center marker
A ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, on Delaware Route 12, two
miles east of Felton, will be the site of the unveiling of a roadside
marker designating the geographic center of the state.
The event is being sponsored by the Delaware Geographic Alliance. For
