On the Job

I enjoy satisfying our customers with prompt service and a pleasant
atmosphere. We offer a variety of sandwiches, fruits, salads and soups made
fresh daily. My job is to make sure things are set up on time, keep the
cafe clean and see that everything looks just right. There are flower
baskets located throughout the cafe, and the scenic wallpaper allows the
customers to feel like they're sitting on an outdoor deck. I've brought a
few knickknacks and stuffed animals from home, to add my own special touch.
A favorite is Rocky the squirrel, the mascot of the cafe. He sits on the
floor and the customers always seem to have a pleasant comment about him.
Everyone who comes in knows Rocky. I also enjoy decorating with the
seasons. I've been working for University Dining Services for the past five
years. I started out as part-time help for the Scrounge, but eventually
moved up to full-time night supervisor. In March, I was promoted to service
coordinator here at Walter's. I am happy I was able to start out as a
part-time employee and work my way up. My clientele includes office
workers, professors, students and visitors. It's this variety that makes my
job most enjoyable."
