Letter from the President

                                                    Sept. 16, 1993
     Dear Colleague:
     The University of Delaware is an inclusive campus, committed to
providing a safe and hospitable climate for students, faculty and staff
from different racial and ethnic backgrounds and with differing sexual
orientations.
     During the past several years, there have been increased initiatives
in support of members of the University's gay, lesbian and bisexual
community. These initiatives seek to ensure that the University is
supportive of all members of the student body, faculty, staff and
professionals. We are committed to promoting diversity on our campus, and
we will encourage further efforts to help ensure that all members of the
University community feel in full measure the support they deserve.
     I call upon all of us to reflect and to resolve that our personal
commitment is to a University of Delaware that is a safe and hospitable
place for all members of our University community.
