Billie Jean King to speak at dinner
Billie Jean King, one of the most successful women tennis players in
the history of the game, will be guest speaker Saturday, April 23, at a
dinner celebrating the 25th anniversary of women's athletics at the
University.
A 6 p.m. reception will precede the dinner and program. Cost of the
dinner is $35.

Science academy meeting April 23
The Delaware Academy of Science's free public spring meeting and
symposium on Delaware Botany will be held from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Saturday,
April 23, in the Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center.

Jewish film series on two evenings
The Jewish Studies Program, the Ray Street Hebrew Community, the
Women's Studies Interdisciplinary Program and Hillel will present two
Israeli films this month and next on campus.
The first, Anou Banou: The Daughters of Utopia, will begin at 7 p.m.,
Wednesday, April 27, in 006 Kirkbride Hall. Cost is $1.
In this film, six women speak of their hopes, dreams and struggles as
socialists, Zionists and feminists arriving in Palestine in the 1920s and
of their lives 60 years later. The movie includes archival music and
footage of these women and their pasts.
The second film will be shown the following Wednesday, May 4, at 7
p.m. in 006 Kirkbride Hall. The title will be announced.

Talk in Milford on health care issues
"What Ails the Health Sector? A Diagnosis and Prescription" will be
the subject of the next University of Delaware Management Development
Breakfast program from 7:30-9 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, at the Shawnee
Country Club in Milford.
Sponsored by the College of Business and Economics, the program
features a talk by Larry Seidman, professor of economics, who is an expert
on the economic forces that affect the health care industry.
The Management Development Breakfast Series provides business leaders,
managers and financial officers with the latest information on management
topics without taking them away from the office during peak business hours.
The programs are conducted by senior members of the College of Business and
Economics or by business and government leaders in Delaware.
The fee for the breakfast program, which includes an American-style
buffet meal, is $15 per person.

U.D. women in library exhibition
A selection of research materials illustrating the history of women at
the University is on display through May 13 in the first-floor exhibit area
of the Morris Library. Exhibition curator was Carol Rudisell, associate
librarian in reference.
The presentation includes historical texts, yearbooks, photographs and
transcriptions of oral histories that document women's early years at the
University.

Math power fair at Christiana Mall
A math fair spotlighting "Math Power for All!" will be held for
children and parents from 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at the
Christiana Mall.
School districts, businesses and organizations will have booths
highlighting the many facets of mathematics education, including new
initiatives in teaching, the use of technology and career applications.
There also will be interactive exhibits, involving computers and math games
and puzzles.
Students in private and public schools have been invited to enter a
poster contest, and winning posters will be displayed at the fair. Four
prizes of $100 each are being awarded in four categories-grades K-3, 4-6,
7-8 and 9-12.
The fair is co-sponsored by the Delaware Mathematics Coaltion Board
and the Delaware Council of Teachers of Mathematics (DCTM).
The coalition board is co-chaired by President David P. Roselle and
Henry Tisdale of Delaware State University, and is directed by Ronald
Wenger, director of the Mathematical Sciences Teaching and Learning Center
and associate dean of arts and science.
Kathleen Hollowell, associate director of the center, is coordinating
the fair, as president of DCTM.
British orchestra in Mitchell Hall
The Milton Keynes City Orchestra, located in Buckinghamshire, north of
London, will perform at 8 p.m, Wednesday, April 27, in Mitchell Hall.
Joining the orchestra on its debut American tour will be pianist
Steven Lubin.
All seats are reserved. Cost is $2 for full-time students with UD ID;
$5 for faculty and staff; and $10 for the general public.

University Chorale in Newark Hall
The University Chorale will present its spring tour concert at 8 p.m.,
Saturday, April 23, in Newark Hall. Tickets are $3.50.
The vocal ensemble has performed at the White House and in New York's
St. Patrick's Cathedral and has been featured at conventions of the
American Choral Directors Association.

Student works in art exhibition
Works by several University of Delaware graduate students are featured
in the current exhibition at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts.

State archivist to present program
Howard P. Lowell, state archivist, will speak on "The State of the
Delaware State Archives" from 10:30-11:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, in the
Lecture Room of the Morris Library.
The presentation is sponsored by the Delaware Library Assembly of
Professional Staff and is open to all members of the University community.
