Advanced study fellows named

     Three senior faculty members have been selected fellows of the Center
for Advanced Study for the 1994-95 academic year:

     * Richard Sylves, political science and international relations,
       "Politics and Presidential Disaster Declarations";
     * Leslie Goldstein, political science and international relations,
       "Centrifugal States and Centripetal Courts:  The European Court of
       Justice (1957-present) and the U.S. Supreme Court (1790-1850)" and
     * Joan Delfattore, English, "The Influence of Special Interest Groups
       on American Education."

     As fellows, they will be given a year off from their teaching
responsibilities to pursue the objectives of the accepted proposals.
     The selection committee included former center fellows L. Leon
Campbell, Hugh M. Morris Research Professor of Molecular Biosciences; Harry
Shipman, physics and astronomy; Tamara Hareven, Unidel Professor of Family
Studies; J. A. Leo Lemay, Winterthur Professor of English; and Arnold Kerr,
civil engineering.
     Twelve applications for research fellowships and one for a teaching
fellowship were reviewed by the committee.
