New head of transit named

Al Geddis, director of Supporting Services, has been appointed
supervisor of the University's newly established Transportation Services
division.
Three units-the University's Motor Pool, Vehicle Maintenance and UD
Transit System operations-were combined into the new division and moved to
a new central location at the University's Wyoming Road Complex. The
administrative change was made to consolidate the three closely related
groups and improve overall management and services.
Individuals who need to arrange for car rentals should be aware that
the rental office has moved from the Plant Operations area to Wyoming Road.
As director of Supporting Services, Geddis supervises operations of
Publications, Graphic Communications Services, Central Receiving and
Delivery, Central Stores and Campus Mail.
Geddis said he was impressed with the operation and scope of the
University's transit system. Statistics show that annual ridership exceeds
750,000 passengers and that buses log more than 200,000 miles a year.
Because of the organizational changes and upcoming construction of the
new student center and parking garage in the parking lot on Main Street
near the Abbey, Geddis said modifications to Transit System routes and
schedules may become necessary. With the loss of parking in this central
area during construction, more individuals may decide to take advantage of
the bus system, he said.
Geddis said he is interested in receiving suggestions from both
current and potential transit system users. Individuals should address
written correspondence via Campus Mail to BUS. E-mail users may direct
suggestions to BUS@mvs.udel.edu.
