Faculty nominations sought
The third University of Delaware Alumni Distinguished Professorship
will be awarded in the fall of 1994, and nominations are now being sought.
This named professorship recognizes a faculty member who has made
significant contributions to the education of undergraduate students
through outstanding teaching and service.
Faculty, deans, chairpersons, alumni and students may nominate
individual faculty for this award. Only faculty who are full professors are
eligible.
Nominees should have demonstrated excellence in teaching. Possible
achievements in this area include, but are not limited to, receipt of
excellence-in-teaching and excellence-in-advisement awards and positive
teaching evaluations, peer observations and reports from alumni.
The nominees should have made major innovations in course and
curriculum design with documented benefits for instructional improvements,
demonstrated campus leadership in the promotion of teaching
excellence-including mentoring of other faculty and graduate students.
They also should have made outstanding contributions to expanding
opportunities for student research and service that enriches student
educational achievement, including the development of significant mentoring
relationships; made national contributions to the promotion of excellence
in teaching through publications; and other professional activity.
Final selection is made by the provost, with recommendations from a
committee that includes the vice provost for academic affairs, two named
professors, one dean, the director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness
and the first two Alumni Distinguished Professors.
Nominations are due in the Office of the Provost by June 30. They
should be sent to the attention of Margaret Andersen.
Faculty who were nominated last year will be considered again for the
professorship.
