Employee Development

Following are Employee Development classes offered this spring. To register
for workshops, use the e-mail form posted on the EMC2 Employee-Development
Bulletin Board or reply from the UNIX newsgroup udel.employee. development
to Empldevreg@ mvs.udel.edu. Individuals may also call the registration
hotline at 831-8725. Participants will be notified of enrollment by a
confirmation letter approximately two weeks prior to the workshop.

Career development
     The new Salaried Staff Career Development Certificate program of
informational seminars, a series of six seminars specifically targeted to
developing critical career building blocks, debuted on Feb. 17. Enrollment
in the program is limited to 15 participants. The first series filled
within days of its announcement. A second series was quickly scheduled and
reached its enrollment limit. Currently, registrations are being taken for
the Fall '94 programs. To learn more about the program call 831-2022 or the

Seminar 1: Introduction to Career Planning
     Introduces salaried staff to the career planning process and acquaints
them with the information, resources and support available.

Seminar 2: Resume Writing
     Discusses various types of resumes and provides guidelines on resume
content and format. Participants will receive personal assistance with
writing or revising resumes.

Seminar 3: Overview of Classification System and Career Matrices
     Information on the salaried staff classification system including
steps involved in reclassifying an existing position. Career matrices will
be reviewed to denote education and experience required for advancement.

Seminar 4: Educational Benefits
     Panel presentation with representatives from Employee Relations,
Computing and Network Services, Continuing Education and Admissions
providing information on UD credit/non-credit classes and certificate
programs available to salaried staff. Will include application process for
Course Fee Waiver, Tuition Remission and Cooperative Tuition Exchange.

Seminar 5: Employment Process, Interviewing Tips and Techniques
     Acquaints salaried staff with the UD employment process. Provides
information on preparing for interviews.

Seminar 6: Goal Setting/Wrap-Up
     Acquaints salaried staff with use of the new Performance Appraisal
Form as a career planning tool. Discusses goal setting to achieve career
advancement and stresses availability of individual career counseling
through the Career Resource Center.

Networking: Managing Internal Relationships
     Getting the Job Done...Trouble Shooting...Problem Solving...Talking it
Out. Effectively managing relationships with colleagues, subordinates and
supervisors can increase everyone's ability to do the best job possible
with the most complete information. An understanding of the elements of
successful collegial relationships can help us apply the principles to
relationships.
