British orchestra to visit campus during debut tour
Tickets are on sale for a concert by the Milton Keynes City Orchestra
whose American debut tour includes a performance at the University of
Delaware on Wednesday, April 27. The 8 p.m. concert will be held in
Mitchell Hall.
Formed in 1974 by its principal conductor, Hilary Davan Wetton, the
Milton Keynes City Orchestra is a central part of the cultural life of the
city of Milton Keynes, located in Buckinghamshire, north of London.
At the center of MKCO's philosophy is a view of classical music as an
art form accessible to all.
Joining the orchestra for its American tour will be pianist Steven
Lubin, who frequently performs at major music centers in North America and
Europe.
Program for the evening will include Samuel Wesley's Symphony No. 5;
the American premier of Malcom Arnold's Variations on a Ukrainian Folk
Song; Lennox Berkeley's Serenade; Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2; and
Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G Minor.
All seats for the performance are reserved. Cost is $2 for full-time
University students with University ID; $5 for University faculty and
staff; and $10 for the general public.
For ticket reservations or more information, call the University box
office at 831-2204.
The performance is sponsored by Student Center Programs and the
University's Department of Music.
