Lecture scheduled on solar power
     T.W. Fraser Russell, Allan P. Colburn Professor of Chemical
Engineering and director of the Institute of Energy Conversion at the
University, will discuss "Solar Electric Power Generation" at 7 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 22, in Newark Hall auditorium.
     The free public talk is co-sponsored by the University and the
Delaware Academy of Science.
     Electric power can be produced directly from the sun by converting
photon energy directly into electricity through photovoltaic arrays or by
using a sunlight heated fluid in a conventional generation facility.
     In his talk, Russell will discuss the status of photovoltaic electric
power generation and review all aspects of the technology-from laboratory
experiment through commercial production to application.

Folk concert in Loudis April 16
     The Department of Music will sponsor two concerts for children and
parents featuring folk musician Jackie Pack at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.,
Saturday, April 16, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music
Building.
     Pack is a folk musician, music therapist and early childhood music
consultant. Especially noted for getting young audiences into the fun of
music making, Pack presents songs, games, dances and instruments from many
cultures in the U.S., Africa, Latin America, Europe and Israel. She sings
in many languages, including Swahili, Hebrew and Spanish.
     All proceeds from this special performance benefit the Saturday A.M.
Music Program at the University. Saturday A.M. Music is a self-supporting,
non-profit program providing music lessons to community children and adults
at a reasonable cost.
     Cost in advance for the concerts is $5 for adults and $3 for children;
$7 for adults and $5 for children at the door.

Workshops focus on large classes
     The Center for Teaching Effectiveness will offer two workshops
focusing on teaching large classes.
     At them, four faculty members will share how they have solved some of
the challenges. James R. Soles, political science and international
relations, and Mary Ruth Warner, women's studies, will speak from noon-1:30
p.m., Friday, March 18, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.
Helene Intraub, psychology, and Steve Skopik, life and health sciences will
lead the second workshop, to be held from noon-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March
22, in the Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center.

Diversity sessions set through June
     The Office of Affirmative Action and Multicultural Programs and the
Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity have scheduled a series
of "Welcoming Diversity" workshops under the auspices of the Commission's
Diversity Education Task Force.
     Weekday workshops begin at 8:30 a.m., and Saturday workshops begin at
9 a.m.  Workshops conclude between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m.  The one-day,
experiential workshops will help participants identify the information and
misinformation learned about other groups; identify and express pride in
the groups to which they belong; learn how groups other than their own
experience mistreatment and discrimination; and practice how to interrupt
prejudicial jokes, remarks and slurs.
     All workshops will take place in the Perkins Student Center. The next
workshop is Saturday, March 19, in the Ewing Room.
     In April, workshops will be presented Thursday, April 7, Ewing Room;
Sunday, April 10, Ewing Room; and Wednesday, April 27, Rodney Room.
     The May presentations will occur on Wednesday, May 3, Rodney Room;
Saturday, May 7, Ewing Room; and Friday, May 13, Rodney Room.
     The June programs will be held Monday, June 6, Ewing Room; and Friday,
June 10, Ewing Room.
