PINs add to FLEX security

     Beginning April 4, campus users of UD1 FLEX accounts will need to know
their PINs (Personal ID Numbers) when they use several campus facilities,
according to Barbara L. Kreppel, assistant vice president for
administrative services.
     "This step will provide a greater measure of security for FLEX
accounts," she said.
     PINs will be required for transactions made at:

        * The Christiana, Rodney and Harrington convenience markets;
        * Public Safety;
        * Student Health Services dispensary; and
        * Bob Carpenter Center and Mitchell Hall box offices.

     At these locations, cashiers will swipe a user's UD#1 CARD (ID) and
then ask the user to enter her or his PIN on a keypad. Eventually, PIN
keypads will be added to even more locations on the campus.
     University faculty and staff who currently have a FLEX account will be
notified by mail what the initial PIN will be. Anyone opening a new FLEX
account will be assigned a PIN at that time. Students will be able to use
their UDPHONE PINs, which are now used to drop/add or listen to grades on
UDPHONE and to use kiosks in the Student Services Building.
     Any individual who does not know what this PIN is, who did not receive
a PIN in the mail, who forgot the PIN or who wants to change it to another
number needs to ask for help at the ID Card Office in the Student Services
Building. It's best to select a PIN that is easy to remember but one that
is not an obvious combination, such as a birthdate or address.
     Also, avoid a PIN such as "0000." A PIN should be four numeric digits
that are private, confidential and known only to the account holder.
     Anyone with questions or comments should contact a service
representative at the Service Desk in the Student Services Building or call
UD1-CARD (831-2273).
