Faculty Senate approves new minor in Japanese
At its March meeting, the University Faculty Senate passed a new,
higher grade requirement for undergraduate nursing courses.
According to the resolution introduced at the meeting, research by the
faculty of the College of Nursing showed that students who passed courses
with grades of 73 or less on a scale of 100 were frequently unable to pass
the national licensing examination.
The resolution requires that students in the nursing program must have
a minimum of 2.0 in each nursing course.
In other business, the senate passed a proposed new minor in Japanese
and approved a number of course revisions without discussion.
Prior to the meeting, the first of three finalists for the position of
provost, Anne H. Hopkins of the University of Minnesota, met with senators
and guests.
Open senate meetings also will be held with the other two candidates.
The second candidate will meet at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, in
Mitchell Hall, and the third at 3 p.m., Monday, March 21, at 110 Memorial
Hall.
