Career paths help salaried staff develop job skills
Career matrices were originally developed in 1988-89 by sub-committees
of the Employee Relations Advisory Council (ERAC) for each of the five
salaried staff families (Secretarial, Records, Library, Service and
Technical).
As position descriptions change and new job titles are added, the
career matrices are updated.
These matrices are available on both EMC2 Bulletin Board and
U-Discover! Look for the Bulletin Board entitled "Career Path - SalStf" or
the U-Discover! directory "Career Path- Salaried Staff." Copies of
individual career matrices are also available from Employee Services at
831-2171.
Each career matrix includes three elements:
Minimum required education, training and job experience needed to
perform the duties of the position;
Preferred training, job skills or other competencies; and
Recommended career-advancement strategies for promotion to the next
higher level in the job series.
These career paths can help salaried staff acquire the skills needed
to enhance their current job performance and position themselves for
increased job responsibilities in the future.
Following the recommended strategies will not automatically result in
promotion to another position, but it can help the salaried staff member by
providing information about education, specialized training or other
activities that support career enhancement.
