Seven steps to salaried staff employment at the University

Listed below are the major steps involved in the salaried staff
employment process. Questions regarding the process should be directed to
Karen Garrett, employment coordinator, at 831-2171.

       1) Vacant positions are advertised on the Employment
          Hotline--professional, 831-2100, and salaried staff, 831-6612.
The hotline is updated every Tuesday in the late afternoon. In
addition, vacancies are listed on the EMC2 Bulletin Board and in
the Employee Information section of U-Discover! Employment
opportunities also can be found in each issue of UpDate.

       2) A resume and an Applicant Information Form must be submitted to
Employee Services by the published closing date. If your resume
is currently on file, then a phone call to Employee Services at
831-2171 prior to the published closing date is all that is
necessary to be considered for a position. Applicants are
acknowledged in writing by Employee Services.

       3) Employee Services screens all resumes. The resumes of those
meeting the minimum qualifications for the position are forwarded
to the hiring department for review.

       4) The hiring unit reviews the resumes and selects those
individuals they wish to interview. Employee Services reviews the
hiring unit's choices to ensure there is a diverse pool and that
the hiring unit has used job-related criteria in the selection
          process.

       5) Employee Services schedules interviews for the hiring unit.

       6) Subsequent to the selection of a finalist by the hiring unit,
Employee Services conducts a reference check. Finalists are
contacted prior to the reference check. Employee Services then
makes an offer to the selected candidate.

       7) All applicants are informed in writing when the search process
          has been concluded.
