Employee Development and Training
Workshops offered to assist resume writers

A series of workshops was offered this summer to salaried staff
interested in developing or updating their resumes. Presented at campus
locations in Newark and Southern Delaware, the classes drew a significant
number of participants.
Two distinct programs were designed and presented by Employee Services
staff members. Each session stressed resume preparation, the University
employment process and use of the salaried staff career matrices in
establishing advancement strategies.
"Developing Your Resume" is an introduction to resume writing. It
focuses on the resume as an employment tool, examines various resume styles
and provides tips on the types of information to include.
Individuals who already have a resume will find "Updating Your Resume"
helpful since it concentrates on enhancing style, content and language.
Small-group discussions help participants identify the most effective
resume format to meet their needs.
"I found the workshops very worthwhile," said Rita Girardi, executive
secretary in the College of Nursing, "particularly for someone not familiar
with preparing a resume. The in-class activities helped me to clarify
information about my work history and better explain relevant details."
Another participant, Carol Rogers, secretary in the Department of
Public Safety, also commented favorably on the presentation she attended.
"The hand-outs I received were a great aid later when I sat down to write
my resume," she noted. "I've even shared those materials with co-workers
and friends."
Salaried staff members interested in participating in future resume
writing workshops are encouraged to call the Employee Development
registration line at 831-8725.
