Finnish fashion
Hilkka Sillanpaa-Suominen (second from right), a senior lecturer on
textiles design from the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki,
Finland, taught a workshop, "Electronic Fashion and Textile Studio," in the
Department of Textile Design and Consumer Economics during Winter Session.
She and this team of Delaware students designed a collection of coordinated
sportswear using the department's Computer-Aided Design (CAD) lab. As part
of the project, students in Finland designed sweaters for the collection.
The two student groups communicated and viewed each other's work via a
telecommunications system-both verbally and visually making suggestions and
changes by drawing directly on the computer screen.
