Diversity workshops set
The Office of Affirmative Action and Multicultural Programs and the
Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity have scheduled a series
of "Welcoming Diversity" workshops in the Perkins Student Center, under the
auspices of the Commission's Diversity Education Task Force.
Weekday workshops begin at 8:30 a.m., and Saturday workshops begin at
9 a.m. Workshops conclude between 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. The one-day,
experiential workshops will help participants identify the information and
misinformation learned about other groups; identify and express pride in
the groups to which they belong; learn how groups other than their own
experience mistreatment and discrimination; and practice how to interrupt
prejudicial jokes, remarks and slurs.
Last semester, the University became a campus affiliate of the
National Coalition Building Institute. During Winter Session, 38 University
students, faculty and staff participated in a three-day training session.
Participants from this training session and previous ones will be the
spring workshop facilitators.
Individuals may register for any of the workshops by returning the
form, calling Gloria Davis at 831-8735 or by sending her an e-mail message
at Gloria.Davis indicating the date of the workshop preferred, and a name
and telephone number for contact.
If departments would like groups of employees to attend the workshop
together, arrangements can be made and they may register together. A
department may request a workshop specifically or, for itself.
