Cellist to perform with symphony
The Delaware Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will feature principal cellist
Louisa Hazen Marks at its concerts at 8 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, Feb.
24-26, in the Grand Opera House.
Marks will perform Saint-Saens' Cello Concerto No. 1. She also is the
principal cellist of OperaDelaware and a member of the Wilmington String
Ensemble. Marks currently teaches cello at the University and the
Wilmington Music School.

Juried exhibit in University Gallery
The University Gallery and the Department of Art will hold a reception
to open the 26th University of Delaware Biennial National Juried Exhibition
of Works on or of Paper from 4:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18.
Eighty-four works by 56 national artists will be on view through Feb.
28 at the University Gallery in Old College. The juror, Geno Rodriguez,
will attend the reception and give a public lecture on issues in
contemporary art from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in 112 McDowell Hall.
Founder and executive director of the Alternative Museum located in
New York City, Rodriguez also is an accomplished visual artist and teacher
who has exhibited his photographs nationally and internationally. Awarded a
National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1979, he recently served on
the Clinton/Gore presidential transition team for the arts and humanities.
Harlem dancers in Mitchell Hall
The legendary Dance Theatre of Harlem will perform at 8 p.m.,
Saturday, Feb. 26, in Mitchell Hall.
Tickets are on sale now at the Hartshorn box office, at $15 for the
general public, $10 for University faculty and staff, and $5 for students
with a University ID.
Now celebrating its 25th year, Dance Theatre of Harlem has always been
committed to making the best of neo-classical ballet widely available to
communities locally, nationally and internationally.

College Democrats to host officials
Gov. Thomas Carper; Charles Oberly, Delaware attorney general and
candidate for the U.S. Senate; and Kevin Avery, senior policy adviser from
the National Health Care Campaign, will be the featured speakers at the
mid-Atlantic regional convention of the College Democrats of America,
scheduled Saturday, Feb. 12, at the University of Delaware.
The event is sponsored by the University chapter of the College
Democrats.
Carper will speak at 10 a.m. in Room 100 Kirkbride Lecture Hall,
followed by Avery. Oberly will speak at an evening banquet to be held at 7
p.m. in Clayton Hall.
Other activities include afternoon seminars on campaign training and
campus outreach and coalition building, and talks by Gary Hindes,
chairperson of the Delaware Democratic Committee, and Adam Kreisel,
president of the College Democrats of America.
