Delaware new member of USRA

The University of Delaware this year became an institutional member of
the Universities Space Research Association (USRA), a private, non-profit
consortium of 76 universities active in space and aerospace research and
education.
An article in the USRA Quarterly welcomed the University to the
organization. The article commended the Bartol Research Institute at the
University for its "illustrious history of scientific excellence" in such
areas as cosmic rays, interplanetary medium, planetary magnetic fields,
high energy particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology, solar and stellar
physics and nuclear physics.
The University's Center for Remote Sensing and faculty research in
physics and astronomy, chemistry, chemical engineering and electrical
engineering were cited for their involvement in space science and
technology.
Founded in 1969, USRA sponsors visiting scientists at government
centers in Earth, space and life sciences; coordinates educational programs
in space and aerospace science and engineering; operates the Lunar and
Planetary Institute, the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and
Engineering, the Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science and the
Center of Excellence in Space Data and Information Sciences.
