Cruising the Internet at campus fair
More than 300 members of the campus community cruised the Internet at
the "U-Discover! the Global Community-Exploring the Internet" fair held
Jan. 12 in the Harrington Commons computing site. The fair was part of a
continuing Internet Awareness Initiative sponsored by Computing and Network
Services' User Services.
The Internet, the largest and fastest-growing information network in
the world, is often referred to as the "information superhighway."
The fair was well-received by participants, with such evaluations
including: "All was useful, if a bit overwhelming." "All of it was fine.
It's new to me." "Found something new and valuable at each station." "I had
no idea so much existed through gopher." "Very useful. Do again!" "The
handouts are most valuable as a resource when you are actually trying to
use the Internet." "Thanks. Please repeat."
User Services plans to repeat the fair at the beginning of the first
summer session. The next phase of the initiative-directed at students-will
begin Feb. 15 with a demonstration of how to access student information
using the Internet. The demonstration, to be held in the Ewing Room of the
Student Center, will be repeated Feb. 23.
