Employee Development and Training
How employees can take advantage of Employee Development workshops

                         Eligibility
All University employees are eligible for Employee Development
programs. However, employees will need supervisory approval to attend. Some
courses are designed for a specific employee group. Check the course
announcement.

                         Release time
Release time for an employee to participate in Employee Development
workshops requires supervisory approval. Supervisors should balance
workshop requirements with the employee's need for skill enhancement and/or
career growth. The University encourages supervisors to discuss
release-time options for participating in University-sponsored training
programs with interested employees.

                         Course enrollment
Enrollment in training programs is limited to pre-registered
participants. Special program priorities are noted in the course
announcement. Please register well in advance of the workshop dates.
Courses will be canceled due to low enrollment.

                         Program acceptance
Employee Development will notify employees of course acceptance within
two weeks of the program date. Every effort is made to honor program
requests. If a workshop is full, the interested employee will be placed on
a waiting list. If possible, additional sessions will be scheduled. In the
event a workshop is canceled, employees will be enrolled in the next
available session.

                         Cancellations
If an employee is unable to attend a workshop, he or she must call
Employee Development at 831-2022, at least two business days before the
program. Payments for fee-required programs will be forfeited if a
cancellation is made without providing proper notification.

                         Consultation services
The Employee Development unit is available for consultation to any
University unit regarding specific organizational, training, development
and career planning needs. For specific information, interested individuals
should contact Edwina Haring at 831-2022 to arrange for an appointment.
