New performance appraisal system for salaried staff
A new performance appraisal system for University salaried staff has
been approved for implementation this spring, according to Maxine Colm,
vice president for employee relations.
"The annual performance evaluation should be an opportunity for
discussion between a supervisor and the salaried staff member," Colm noted.
"The process should support clarification of job duties, while encouraging
goal setting and creation of a plan for further development. I am confident
this new appraisal system will achieve all those results for salaried
staff."
Colm indicated that the new performance evaluation system for salaried
staff parallels very closely the format introduced last year for
professionals. In addition, the Salaried Staff Advisory Council (SSAC) was
consulted on the design and content of the new instrument.
"In general, response from salaried staff to the introduction of a new
appraisal form has been positive. Of course, we will continue to seek
suggestions for future improvements," she said.
Features of the new performance appraisal system include a
Self-Appraisal Worksheet to identify accomplishments during the past year
and indicate career development interests, plus an 11-item performance
rating section. Where specific areas needing improvement are identified, a
Performance Improvement Plan is available to assist the supervisor and
salaried staff member in that process.
Copies of the performance evaluation forms have been distributed to
salaried staff and their supervisors. In addition, training workshops are
scheduled to acquaint supervisors and salaried staff with the new system as
well. Consult the list of training programs for details.
Electronic copies of the appraisal form will be made available to unit
Computer Resource Persons (CRPs). Available versions include WordPerfect,
WordPerfect for Windows and MacIntosh Microsoft Word. Completed performance
appraisals should be returned to Employee Services, 51 East Main St., by
April 30.
Questions regarding electronic versions of the new appraisal forms
should be directed to the CNS Helpline at 831-6000.
All other inquiries should be directed to Employee Services at
