Students save for future
A group of chemistry students captured the present and past for a time
capsule to be placed in the cornerstone of the Lammot du Pont Laboratory in
an informal ceremony on Dec. 14.
Members of the American Chemical Society Student Affiliate selected
memorabilia connected with the building for inclusion in the cornerstone.
The items selected include the 1993 graduate faculty research booklet,
Scholarly Activities of Faculty; an invitation, speeches and medallion from
the Celebration of Science ceremonies held in conjunction with the building
dedication; UpDate, The Review and other newspaper articles on the
Celebration of Science ceremonies; a program for the Lammot du Pont
Laboratory dedication; a book containing the signatures of Lammot du Pont's
descendants; a photograph and biography of Lammot du Pont; an article on
the Lammot du Pont Laboratory and research plans for the facility; and a
group photograph of chemistry faculty, students and staff, celebrating 150
years of teaching.
George Rutynowski, manager of the Department of Chemistry and
Biochemistry shops, sealed the time capsule. Cynthia McClure, assistant
professor of chemistry and biochemistry, coordinated the event.
