Educators head research journal
Review of Educational Research, an authoritative, international
journal of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), has two
new editors from the University of Delaware.
Frank B. Murray, dean of the College of Education and H. Rodney Sharp
Professor of Educational Studies and Psychology, and James Raths,
chairperson of educational studies, have assumed the helm of the quarterly
publication for the next three years.
According to Murray, AERA is the leading professional organization for
those in the field of education. The Review of Educational Research, AERA's
flagship publication, is the journal of choice of most of the
organization's 20,000 members, who may select two of AERA's four
publications.
"It is impossible to keep abreast of all the new research in modern
scholarship, and a review journal, such as this one, performs an important
task by keeping members informed about current research in all areas of
education, from curriculum to administration," Murray said.
Murray and Raths say they plan to introduce new types of articles into
the journal in addition to review articles, such as essays, point/
counterpoint debates and articles on statistics methodology. Of the
manuscripts submitted to the journal, only 20 percent are accepted for
publication after review by members of an advisory board. University
faculty will be invited to serve in this capacity.
According to Raths, the journal also will provide opportunities for
the college's graduate students. They will be involved in the editing
process and encouraged to read the submitted manuscripts.
