DuPont-U.D. ceremony set to honor Dr. King

     Tickets are available for members and friends of the University
community to "A Day of Celebration Commemorating the Life of Dr. Martin
Luther King," at 9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 17, at the Bob Carpenter
Sports/Convocation Center.
     This program is sponsored by the DuPont Co., in cooperation with the
University of Delaware.
     Free general admission tickets may be obtained from Jan. 7-14 at the
Perkins Student Center main desk, the Center for Black Culture at 192 South
College Ave. and the Office of Affirmative Action and Multicultural
Programs in Rooms 124 and 305 Hullihen Hall.
     This year's keynote speaker will be William H. Gray III, former U.S.
House of Representatives majority whip, who has served as president and
chief executive officer of the United Negro College Fund since 1991.
     A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, Gray received a master of
divinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary and master of theology
degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. He served as minister at Bright
Hope Baptist Church in Philadelphia, following in the footsteps of his
father and grandfather before him. He was elected to Congress in 1978.
     During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Gray chaired the
House Democratic Caucus and the Democratic Platform Committee at the 1988
Democratic National Convention. He also chaired the Budget Committee in the
House of Representatives.
     The Jan. 17 program also will include an opening event celebrating Dr.
King and the diversity of DuPont employees. Edgar S. Woolard, chairman and
chief executive officer of the DuPont Co., will announce the Valuing People
Recognition honorees. Music will be provided by the 1994 DuPont Diversity
Choir and the University of Delaware Gospel Choir.
