Ag tour to Egypt to raise funds
Donald Crossan, former dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences,
will lead a tour to Egypt from Feb. 17 to March 1, to raise funds for the
University's Agricultural Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
Highlights of the 14-day tour include visits to the Sphinx and the
Great Pyramids of Giza, the Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel, the Valley
of the Kings and other remnants of ancient Egyptian civilization. The
group also will visit the High Aswan Dam, the botanical garden of Kitchener
Island and the King Tut treasures in the Museum of Antiquities.
A deluxe, five-day cruise aboard the M/S Nile Goddess will provide the
opportunity to observe farming as it was practiced in biblical times, with
ancient irrigation water wheels, wooden plows pulled by water buffalo and
much of the planting and harvesting still done by hand.
An optional six-day trip to the Sinai will provide opportunities for
snorkeling and fishing, as well as spectacular scenery and religious
landmarks such as the 6th-century St. Catherine's Monastery located on Mt.
Sinai.
An Egyptologist will accompany the tour, and a noted American
professor at the University of Cairo will present a seminar on Egypt's
history, ecomonics, agriculture, art and social customs.
For a brochure outlining the complete itinerary and costs, call
Crossan at 738-4318, Rich Barczewski at 697-4000, or Ed Kee at 856-7303.
