Diversity workshop
The Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity will offer a
one-day "Welcoming Diversity" workshop from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Jan.
8, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.
This free workshop, which is open to all members of the University
community, is designed to help participants understand and deal with
various forms of discrimination and to bring the campus closer to achieving
a community where dialog and discourse are the dictates of the day.

Winter fitness
Registration for Winter Session fitness programs begins Monday, Dec.
13, and classes start on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Sea Grant proposals
The University's Sea Grant College Program is soliciting pre-proposals
for the period from Feb. 1, 1995, through Jan. 31, 1997. Request forms for
pre-proposals will be available Wednesday, Dec. 15. Pre-proposals are
needed in the general areas of marine biotechnology, coastal
processes/engineering, environmental studies, fisheries and aquaculture and
marine policy. To obtain a copy, call the program office at 831-8182.
Delaware cookbook
The Delaware 4-H Foundation Inc. is selling Delaware 4-H Favorites, a
cookbook featuring favorite recipes from 4-H members, leaders, alumni and
friends as a fundraising project to support 4-H programs.
The cookbook, which contains 335 recipes, is available from individual
4-H members, as well as at local bookstores and businesses throughout the
state, for $10.
University employees may obtain a copy by visiting the state 4-H
office, located at 122 Townsend Hall, or by sending a check for $10-made
payable to the Delaware 4-H Foundation Inc.-to the same address.
Caroling on lawn
The Newark Business Association, city of Newark and the University
will sponsor "Carolling on the Lawn" at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17, at the
corner of Main and Academy streets.
At 7 p.m., masters of ceremonies Marcel Forestieri of TCI
Cablevision's Channel 2 and Newark Mayor Ron Gardner will thank community
groups, city, University and business community participants, followed by
caroling.
Guests will include Santa Claus; Carl Luft, Newark city manager;
Newark City Council members; John Brook, University vice president of
government and public relations; development office staff in the Academy
Building; Newark Business Association members; Margaret Katz, Newark Senior
Center executive director; Al Campagnone, WNRK Radio manager; Jim Streit,
Newark Post publisher; the Newark and Glasgow high schools chorus and local
celebrities.
In addition, canned goods will be collected at the Academy Building
steps. The Food Bank of Delaware Inc. will distribute all food collected
that evening.
In addition to "Carolling on the Lawn," there will be "Carolling on
the Circle," at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 13, in Georgetown; and "Carolling on
the Square," at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, in Wilmington.
Skating send-off
More than 40 skaters from the University of Delaware Skating Club will
depart on Jan. 1 for the Nationals in Detroit, an important competition for
selection for the U.S. Olympic team. This will be the largest team sent by
Delaware to the Nationals.
Two gala send-offs for the Nationals, featuring performances by the
University's top skaters, are scheduled at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, and
at 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19, at the University's Blue Ice Arena.
Tickets-at $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under-are on sale
at the Blue Ice Arena box office.
Hollingsworth art
"Vision," an art exhibit featuring multimedia installations by
students Jon Shidler, Nic Nichols and Nadine Messam, will be on display
from 5-9 p.m., Monday, Dec. 13, at the Hollingsworth Building.
Sponsored by the sculpture area in the Department of Art, the exhibit
is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Holiday brunch
The Blue and Gold Club will hold its holiday brunch from 10:30 a.m. to
2:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12.
The menu will include carved baked ham, potatoes lyonnaise, seafood
newberg, carved top round of beef, linguini with chicken, asparagus and
lemon sauce, baked flounder with dill salsa, omelettes, eggs benedict,
waffles, bacon and sausage, pancakes with assorted toppings, smoked trout
and salmon, assorted bagels and pastries, a complimentary glass of
sparkling white wine and a dessert table.
Cost is $15.95 for adults, $7.95 for children ages 5 to 11 and free
for children under 5.
Club membership is required and all University employees are eligible.
