On Campus
I'm originally from Algeria, but I'm here in Delaware getting my Ph.D.
in political science. I chose this school because I love the program. I'm
used to big cities, so I like Newark. It's a nice smaller town. I was a
member of the Cosmopolitan Club for two years and was elected president of
the group.
Some people think that the club is only for international students,
but it's for everyone. We try to bring American and foreign students
together to learn about each other. We have 80 official members who
represent 30 countries.
We do many things, including a coffee hour once a week. It's basically
a time to socialize, but once a month we feature a different country.
Members also give talks about their countries when asked to by any
University group. Talk about getting involved with service projects is
going on right now, too. We're thinking about raising money for a homeless
shelter.
The two biggest events we have each year are the Festival of nations
in the fall and International Night in the spring. The Festival of Nations
was held in November. We set up table with food, art and music from
different countries. The food is always the most popular. Members of the
club put on shows featuring their countries for International Night, which
is held in the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. We also have parties once a
month and run trips to places like New York City.
The Cosmopolitan Club is a really great place to meet people from all
over the world. It's not just for foreigners. Everyone is welcome.
