University holiday schedule
The University will observe a holiday recess between Dec. 24 and Jan.
3. The closing will be evaluated in early 1994 to determine whether it
should continue next year.
The details of this holiday period closings are as follows:
Friday, Dec. 24 - Traditional holiday
Monday, Dec. 27 - Traditional holiday
Tuesday, Dec. 28 - Traditional holiday
Wednesday, Dec. 29 - President's holiday for 1993
Thursday, Dec. 30 - Additional paid holiday for 1993 only
Friday, Dec. 31 - Traditional holiday
Monday, Jan. 3 - Offices reopen at 8 a.m.
Salaried staff employees who work on a holiday will be paid for the
hours worked at time and one-half in addition to the regular pay or will be
given compensatory time off at time and one-half.
The dates are to be mutually agreed upon by the employee and
supervisor.
Holiday pay provisions for hourly employees are outlined in collective
bargaining agreements.
Recognizing the need for certain services to continue during the
recess, the following areas of Supporting Services will operate on a
limited schedule:
Campus Mail
Regular mail delivery will continue through Dec. 23. Any added
outgoing mail (USPS) should be brought to the Mail Center in the General
Services Building by 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23. The facility will be open
on Dec. 28, 29 and 31, and mail can be picked up between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
on those days.
During the week of Jan. 3 though 7, there will be one delivery each
day, due to the volume received during the break period.
FedEX, UPS Overnight and other courier-delivered packages will be
accepted in Campus Mail during the break week.
Recipients who have not picked up the packages beforehand will be
called the week of Jan. 3-7.
Plant Operations
During this period, plant operations will make every effort to heat
buildings in an "off-hours" mode that will result in reduced indoor
temperatures. In addition, other services, such as custodial and waste
removal, will be curtailed. Offices and laboratories intending to be in
operation for any part of the recess should contact plant operations at
831-2720 to make the necessary arrangements for services.
Emergencies
Emergency response personnel will be available and can be reached by
calling Public Safety at 831-2222.
Call forwarding
Offices may have their phone calls transferred to the University's
main line, 831-2000, where incoming callers will hear a recorded
announcement of the holiday recess schedule. To transfer calls, individuals
must press 72 and, following the beep, press 2000. Upon return to campus,
press 73 to deactivate the transfer.
Anyone not sure if a line has call forwarding capability, should
contact Telephone Services at 831-2411 by Dec. 17. No phones should be
transferred to extension 2000 before 5 p.m., Dec. 23. Due to the high
volume of calls coming into extension 2000, University operators are unable
to handle additional calls or take messages for other departments.
Computing Center
All central computing systems and applications will be up and
available throughout the holiday period from Dec. 24 through Jan. 2, with
the following exceptions:
* Between 4 p.m., Dec. 24, and 4 p.m., Dec. 25, no tape mounts or
other operator intervention will be available on central systems.
* Preventive maintenance on the building electrical systems is
scheduled Wednesday, Dec. 29, and Thursday, Dec. 30.
* Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Dec. 29, computer systems may be
interrupted with little notice, if downtime is required for repairs.
* Between 8 a.m. and noon, Dec. 30, a full shutdown of all systems and
building power is required. For the remainder of the day, all computers
will be available, but subject to interruption.
If there are any questions of concerns, call Earl Davis at 831-3782 or
via e-mail at Earl.Davis@MVS.
Libraries
University libraries will be closed during the holiday period.
