Student theatre group to present modern play

The Black Student Theatre will present Who's Got His Own by Ron Miller
at 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, Dec. 3-4 and 10-11, at the Bacchus
Theatre in the Perkins Student Center.
This production will be a participating entry in the Kennedy Center
American College Theatre Festival to be held at Pennsylvania State
University in January. Nancy King, professor in the University Honors
Program, is the group's adviser.
Set in Detroit in the 1960s, the play is about an African-American
family after the death of the father.
The pivotal characters are a college-aged son and daughter and their
mother, who all are forced to face their emotional and strife-filled past
while dealing with the present.
By bringing their experiences with their father and husband out in the
open, they come to a greater understanding and acceptance of him and of
each other.
The issues of violence and racism they face are pertinent today,
according to Chris Matthews, who is president of the campus theatre group.
In order to give several students the opportunity to learn stagecraft,
there will be two different casts.
On Dec. 3 and 11, the production will feature Matthews, Andrea Gathers
and Melinda Blow.
On Dec. 4 and 10, Rich Briggs, Veronica Rockett and Mikelle Drew will
play the major roles.
Naomi Carter, Christine Tymes and Candace Weir will appear in all four
performances.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for students.
