Lecture series receives award
Understanding Orthopaedic Injuries and Conditions," a lecture
series/credit course offered by the Division of Continuing Education, won
an award from the National University Continuing Education Association
(NUCEA), Region II, at a recent conference in Princeton, N.J.
Organized by Sylvia Brocka, senior program manager in continuing
education, the program was cited by NUCEA for "using a pre-existing
curriculum in an innovative and cost-effective way," allowing healthcare
professionals to have the "opportunity to update their knowledge and skills
in an inexpensive and convenient format, while meeting their mandatory
continuing education requirements."
According to Brocka, Dr. Michael J. Axe, a partner in Wilmington
Orthopaedic Consultants and the coordinator and primary lecturer in the
series, was instrumental in developing the concept of a credit course in
the Physical Therapy Program also serving as a continuing education credit
for physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers. Health
professionals could register for the entire series or for individual
lectures.
The course also provided a forum for physical therapy students and
health professionals to interact and learn from each other, Brocka said.
Several orthopaedic specialists from Wilmington Orthopaedic
Consultants who were lecturers during the series returned their fees, after
expenses, to be used for reference books in the University's Physical
Therapy Clinic.
