Professor awarded Fulbright to lecture in South Africa

A University of Delaware economics professor has received a
prestigious Fulbright grant for the 1993-94 academic year to lecture at the
University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa.
Burton A. Abrams said the grant will allow him to work in that
university's economics department, lecturing in macroeconomics and public
finance as a Senior Fulbright Scholar. He will work with both graduate and
undergraduate students and travel to lecture at other universities as well.
"The University of the Western Cape is one of the more progressive
universities in South Africa," he said. "It is predominantly composed of
native Africans and mixed-race students."
Abrams added that it will be an exciting time to be in South Africa,
when the country's first multinational elections are held in April.
Abrams joined the University of Delaware in 1974 as an assistant
professor.
He holds both master's and doctoral degrees in economics from Ohio
State University.
Previously, he served as a Fulbright Scholar at Nankai University in
the People's Republic of China. He is the author of numerous journal
publications and an economics textbook.
Fulbright grants are administered by the U.S. Information Agency and
awarded by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board on the basis
of national competition.
