     Raymond Callahan, history, elected to a three-year term on the board

     Frank B. Murray, H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies and
     Psychology, appointed by Gov. Thomas R. Carper as commissioner from
     Delaware to the Education Commission of the States.
 
     Eileen Smitheimer, theatre, served as sound designer for Hope Summer
     Repertory Company's productions of Peter Pan, Importance of Being
     Earnest, Young Rube and I Hate Hamlet; as lighting designer for
     Theatre of Magic in New York; and sound designer for Delaware Theatre
     Company's production of The Trip to Bountiful.
 
     Ron Martin, geology, author with former graduate student Elaine Kotler
     and W.D. Liddell of Utah State University of an article nominated for
     best paper award for the journal Palaios.  The paper is titled
     "Experimental Analysis of Abrasion and Dissolution Resistance of
     Modern Reef-Dwelling Foraminifera: Implications for the Preservation
     of Biogenic Carbonate."
 
     John L. Burmeister, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Chemistry,
     served as liaison for North Atlantic Conference at fall meeting of the
     NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives Association, Oct. 28-29,
     Chicago, and also attended 15th annual meeting, Council for Chemical
     Research, Oct. 8-13, Keystone, Colo.
 
     Catherine Fitzmaurice, theatre, served in the summer as vocal coach in
     Jane Bowles' production of In the Summer House for the Lincoln Center
     Vivian Beaumont Theatre in New York City,  and as vocal coach for
     Arena Stage production of Community Carol, directed by Bill Ranch, in
     Washington, D.C.
 
     Susan Sweeney, theatre, served during the summer as vocal coach for
     Milwaukee Chamber Theatre's production of Timon of Athens and
     performed in the summer at the Utah Shakespearean Festival as Dorine
     in Moliere's Tartuffe and Mrs. Gibbs in Wilder's Our Town.
 
     Kenneth J. Campbell, political science and international relations,
     attended conference on "Vietnam: The Early Decisions, 1961-1964" at
     the LBJ Library, Oct. 15-17, Austin, to discuss with top Vietnam
     scholars from across the nation and several central decisionmakers
     from the era President Kennedy's alleged intentions in 1963 to
     withdraw American advisers from Vietnam.
 
     Peter Vagenas, theatre, commissioned as scenic artist for the Dominy
     Clock and furniture shops installation at Winterthur Museum.
 
     Robert R. Jordan, geology and Delaware Geological Survey, reappointed
     to Outer Continental Shelf Policy Committee by U.S. Secretary of the
     Interior Bruce Babbitt. Jordan has been a member of the committee
     since 1985 and its chairperson since 1992. He also received two awards
     in appreciation of outstanding service from American Geological
     Institute, Oct. 26, in recognition of his contribution as treasurer
     and chairman of the finance committee.

     bus service and $5,000 for a Clean Air attitude survey; $15,251 from
     Delaware Bureau of Vital Statistics for processing of data records;
