Recent alumna receives fellowship
Cynthia Danielle Anderson of Havre de Grace, Md., who graduated from
the University with distinction in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in liberal
studies, has been awarded a 1993 Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship.
In addition, the University, as her undergraduate institution, has
received a $1,000 Ford Foundation Baccalaureate Incentive Award, which
recognizes the efforts of the faculty in identifying outstanding minority
students in the behavioral and social sciences, humanities, engineering,
mathematics, physical sciences and biological sciences and encouraging them
to pursue advanced study.
The award will be used by the Office of Graduate Studies for the
recruitment of minority students.
Anderson, who is currently working on her master's degree in the
American studies department of the University of Maryland at College Park,
said she hopes to continue her studies toward a doctorate.
Her field of study is literature by women of color in the period after
1960.
