Musicians from Marlboro to play in Mitchell Hall
Musicians from Marlboro, a nine-piece wind ensemble, will perform at 8
p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, in Mitchell Hall.
The touring extension of the renowned Marlboro Music Festival in
Vermont, the group combines the most exceptional young musicians from the
festival with seasoned artists in programs of rarely heard works and
masterpieces of varied instrumentation.
Each year, more than 25 outstanding artists take time from their
regular activities to bring Musicians from Marlboro concerts to cities
around the country. Now in its 29th season, the group offers such
spirit-making music that a Washington Post reviewer described the ensemble
as a "virtual guarantee of musical excellence."
The Marlboro Music Festival, founded in 1951, brings together leading
musicians from all parts of the world who gather at their own expense for
two months each summer in the tiny town of Marlboro, Vt., to explore and
exchange ideas on chamber music. As a New York Times reporter wrote,
"Marlboro and superior chamber music are virtually synonymous."
The touring program has introduced many of today's leading solo and
chamber music artists to American audiences.
The program for the University concert includes Quintette en forme de
choros, Theme and Variations for Four Wind Instruments, Petite Symphonie,
Serenade No. 12 in C. Minor, K. 388 and Steinway Pianos.
The performance is part of the University's 93-94 Performing Arts
Series. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for University faculty
and staff and senior citizens and $6 for students.
