Diversity workshops scheduled

The Diversity Education Task Force of the Commission to Promote Racial
and Cultural Diversity will sponsor a series of "Welcoming Diversity"
workshops this semester for the campus community.
The one-day, experimental workshops will show participants how to
identify misinformation, heal emotional wounds resulting from mistreatment
and challenge various forms of discrimination.
Full-day sessions will be offered throughout the semester. Weekday
workshops are scheduled from 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.; Saturday workshops will
be held from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
"Welcoming Diversity" is a workshop developed by the National
Coalition Building Institute (NCBI), founded by Cherie R. Brown. The
institute, located in Washington, D.C., was awarded a three-year grant from
the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to continue its prejudice reduction work in
four cities.
A NCBI-trained team has led prejudice reduction programs throughout
the DuPont Company, and that effort has received a Corporate Best Practice
Award.
Recently, the University of Delaware was asked to become an NCBI
campus affiliate.
Workshops are free and open to all members of the University
community. Participants should plan to eat lunch together.
Depending upon the particular workshop location, lunch can be
purchased. Beverages will be provided.
Previous participants have made such positive comments as: "I think
this workshop can help everyone grow," "This workshop should be strongly
encouraged for everyone who works or attends this University," "I have
attended other diversity workshops but I felt very comfortable with this
one," and "The NCBI model is excellent."
     Pre-registration is required.
