America the beautiful                                  
                                                       
     John Frett, ornamental horticulture professor, received a $6,100
grant from the America the Beautiful Program to stimulate interest in
landscaping with trees and plants native to the eastern United States.
The funding helped establish native species in the University of
Delaware Botanic Gardens, which are located on the acreage surrounding
the agricultural buildings on South College Avenue in Newark. The 
grant also will cover the cost of printing educational brochures about
native plants.
